My week of dietary indiscretions has caught up to me.  I am really looking forward to subsisting on cream  of wheat for a few days.  Maybe it will make this horrible cramping pain go away.  Vacation + poor food choices + time for my next Remicade = very unhappy belly.  Anyone else in that boat?

hey all.
i was wondering what colonoscopy prep is like? i hear good things then i hear horror stories. i'd prefer to hear good things, or tips to allow for a smoother journey.
i'm supposed to take 4 ducolax at 10am, 8oz of miralax at 1pm and then fleet enema 1-2 hours before going in.

i hear about people throwing up after drinking the miralax cocktail and i am terrified of throwing up and will do most anything not to.

cut for symptom talk, in case you were wondering. )

TCOYF fail

I'm recovering from my second miscarriage this year. The suspicion is low progesterone but as I hate doctors, I didn't go through testing (yet). I'd rather see our homeopath and continue with my homebirth midwife anyway.

I started to temp- not right after I started to bleed, but about a week ago. My waking temp at 8am is consistently at like 97.2 which is low from when I temped before both pregnancies. Before I got pregnant the first time (my third child last spring) it was usually at about 97.5. I have, in the past, suffered from low progesterone and needed supplements but I didn't temp then. My TCOYF book is like the first edition and it's got nothing helpful in it. I've not ovulated yet and I don't expect to (as I didn't ovulate right after my last miscarriage) even though I'm on day 20 and I normally have 28 day cycles very regularly so I may need to just wait till the next cycle. Anyway the book had no helpful ideas as to what low progesterone would look like in temps or even if it could be identified in one's temps. Are any of your books better? I really need to just chuck this book and get the better one *sigh*

Just wondering if anyone saw this article last week. It's a business article, so it doesn't really give details, but the idea that they're researching stem cells for IBD is really awesome. Does anyone know anything more than the little the article says?

IUD with FAM?

I was wondering if anybody here has an IUD? I am aware there are copper ones as well as hormonal ones. I feel strange putting metal into my body.. but I am 100% against hormonal birth control ever since I have been on the pill. How do the hormonal IUDs work? Do they prevent ovulation?

I'm interested in other forms of non hormonal birth control I can combine with my FAM to be more effective. My significant other wants to basically have sex every day/every other day so abstaining for my fertile period is a no go.. and I'm allergic to latex and we don't feel like wasting money on more expensive alternative condoms. Plus, he doesn't like using them anyway. For the past 6 months we have successfully used FAM with withdrawal but I'd rather use something more reliable than withdrawal.

Merry freaking Christmas!

After about six months of near-daily partial bowel obstructions that usually resolved themselves with some massage and fasting, I ended up getting one on Tuesday that was so bad that I thought for sure I was going to die. I avoided going to the hospital until Thursday morning, when the pain was so ridiculous that even fistfuls of hydromorphone were doing nothing for the pain.

The xrays were in: partial blockage. Surprise.

But no... no surgery yet. They decided to continue to hold off as long as possible on that.
Instead, they drained my bowel through a nasogastric tube (i.e. a tube through my nose into my gut).

Anyone had this before? Most painful thing EVER. I guess we all have our things about Crohn's medical procedures and what not that we find torturesome (e.g. while other people talk about how horrible they find it, for me, a colonoscopy prep and the procedure is a walk in the park), and I guess this is my achilles heel. I will do *anything* to avoid having to go through this again. Every time I talked, breathed, or swallowed, I felt like someone was scraping my throat and nostril with sandpaper. Ouchie. :'(

I think I was better off with the blockage, to be honest.

They came by this morning and I told them that if they didn't take the tube out, I would go to the bathroom and do it myself. Fortunately, it's out now, and it looks like the blockage is resolved, but I'm almost convinced that by the time I go home tomorrow and eat anything, I'll be back.

*grrrrrrrr* + *pessimistic*
Life should *not* be this hard. Someone either find the freaking cure for this disease or legalize euthanasia for chronic illness kplzthx. Either one is fine by me.

Ulcerative Colitis

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I really appreciate all the support you guys offered when I posted about my symptoms a few weeks ago. I had my colonoscopy and I got the results. I have "early inflammatory bowel disease - not crohn's" - which I'm guessing means early Ulcerative Colitis. I have ulcerations on my rectum and the first 1.5 feet of my colon.

I have read all the WebMD and MayoClinic info on UC but what I would love is to hear YOUR experiences and what kind of treatments you tried first. What kinds of dietary interventions have helped you manage flares (I am a nutrition/dietetics student so I'm especially interested in this - I know you can't prevent flares or heal UC with dietary changes but some people have a lot of luck managing their UC with them). Etc, etc. Basically, any suggestions or feedback you would share with a newly diagnosed person would be very, very welcome right now.

Thanks!

valve reconstruction

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hello all, I think I'm probably the only one in this community with a continent illeostomy (BCIR/CIR/continent ostomy) but I wanted to post, because I'm in the hospital and I'm having surgery tomorrow...

I have been charting since I came off HBC in April and since then my body has been adjusting slowly but surely back to "normal". Though my luteal phase has become increasingly longer since first coming off HBC, my temperatures have remained somewhat consistent in pattern.. they up/down in a certain range for the majority of my LP and then start to slowly but surely decrease as my impending period approaches.

ANYWAYS, this cycle.. I have been spotting at 7-9DPO. I have never ever spotted during my luteal phase. I dont ever spot at all except for the few hours prior to my period starting and its usually accompanied with intense cramps at that point.. and 7-9dpo is too early to hint at an impending period, plus it's gone away today and I havent had any cramps at all past few days. The spotting is very minimal.. only noticeable when i wipe, not enough for a pantyliner and is pink in color.

I'm a bit confused.. Not really sure what to think. Anybody have any ideas? I wasnt active during the spotting time so it cant be caused by rough sex. The only explanation I could think of is implantation.

Cold affecting temps

[info]elettaria posting in [info]fam

The weather is bloody Baltic at the moment, it's well below freezing at night and sometimes in the day, and I think this is affecting my temps, which have dropped to lower than usual since this cold snap started. Some nights I'm sleeping naked, some with a nightie on (last night I really should have got up and put on pyjamas instead of lying there shivering too sleepily to move!), and occasionally I put the central heating on overnight. My chart can be seen here, and I'm wondering whether CD18 would make more sense for ovulation. CD17 would give a coverline substantially lower than usual (it ranges from 36.29 to 36.49 but is usually about 36.35), and I can't work out whether I'm seeing a slow rise or whether CD17 is a pre-O temp. I usually have nice clear thermal shifts that follow the rule that the post-O temps are 0.15C above the pre-O ones, and I don't usually get an ovulation dip so that doesn't tell you anything much. My cervix would seem to back up CD18 too. Note that I don't actually check cervix openness, I just put in "open" whenever I get high and soft so that the little box turns green, it's a purely visual aid (my real chart is on a spreadsheet, this is just a backup), and that I always get fertile CF continuing for a few days after ovulation. I haven't been checking CP for all that long so I'm still getting used to my patterns there.

6-MP

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Has anyone ever gone through a prengnancy on 6-MP? Or was taking it and then stopped for the duration of the pregnancy? My GI is urging me to stay on it, while my OB/GYN is urging me to get off. I'm leaning more toward off, but I also don't want to flare, right now especially.

Continuous temp rise during period

So, my last period started the 11th November, and went on for 2O days (!!!). I've just started another period on the 15th December. Thing is, my temperature is waayyy higher than usual, and since day 1 of this cycle keeps getting higher. In a year of charting, my temp has never gotten above 97.5, but this cycle it's been 97.8 and higher...so quite a big difference.

My first thought was that I could be pregnant, and I was having implantation bleeding. But seeing as I've just finished bleeding for 3 weeks, would my body have had the energy to ovulate?
