November 7th, 2009

Ben is currently sleeping in his new bedroom. AND we left one side off his crib. (And Mommy put a body pillow on the floor next to the bed, just in case.) We moved his furniture in there today and he was SO excited! He helped us move toys in there and he put his blankies and stuffed animals and pillows on his "bed." Then he climbed onto it, laid down and said, "night night!" It was hilarious! After we got everything situated, he went in there, shut the door, and played by himself. Whenever Darrell and I went to check on him he would close the door as soon as we walked out. He played in there for at least a half an hour! In a few months we'll get his twin bed and new dresser.

He's still saying new words everyday and is starting to say longer sentences and exclamations. Today he stepped on an empty shoe box and it collapsed. He looked up with big eyes and yelled, "oh no!" Darrell completely cracked up. He loves to be read to. He's still working on learning the alphabet. He knows almost all of the letters by sight. (Upper case.) He's still having problems with "A" and "C." He walks around the house spelling out words that he sees. Wearing shirts with words on them is awesome for him. He'll walk right up and start telling you the letters you have on your shirt.

Nursing is even more limited now. The last three days Ben has not nursed before nap. He doesn't ask and I don't offer. I'm pretty sure I'm completely dry. I've tried to hand express a few different times and haven't gotten a single drop of milk or colostrum. And nursing has become painful for me. He still nurses before bed for about 15-20 minutes. I might try knocking it down a few more minutes as soon as we're sure he's used to his new bedroom and whatnot.

Kid #2 seems to be doing pretty well. Kicking and hitting the pee out of me! Seriously, sometimes it's all I can do to make it to the bathroom. I'm pretty sure he knows exactly what he's doing and thinks it's hilarious. Pretty soon he'll be kicking hard enough so that Ben will be able to feel it when he's cuddling with me. :) I'll try to upload some new pictures and also some of the ultrasound pictures soon. Also, my belly button is popped out. Kid #2 wants onion rings.

Questions from [info]only_hope.

1) What drew you to Darrell?
Honestly (and this is totally cliche), it was his sense of humor. He can make me laugh when no one else can. He can make me laugh when I'm sad, when I'm mad, when I'm in a bad mood... Also, he has the most awesome blue eyes I've ever seen.

2) Did you always dream/think that you wanted children?
I always, always, ALWAYS knew I'd have kids. I've always wanted to be a mom. Before we had kids I explained it to Darrell like this, "have you ever known that you were just BORN to do something? That there is something you HAVE to do because you were made to do it? That's what being a mom feels like to me. It's not something I want to do, it's something I NEED to do." Then we got married and 6 months later Ben was conceived!

3) Tell me how excited you are about having another baby!
I'm beyond excited! I can't believe my pregnancy is already half way over! Things are moving along and we're getting our house and family ready for kid #2. I see family pictures of a mom, dad and two brothers and get teary eyed. That's going to be my family!

4) What do you think about living away from your hometown? (Because I want to know if my own feelings are justified!)
I hate it and I love it. The town I'm from is very small. (One public high school.) There's not a lot of opportunity there and the school system seems to keep getting worse. I'd never live there again, but I wish we weren't quite so far away either. It'll be nice to take my kids for visits during the summer. It's a pretty good summer town and I can see my future teen-aged boys wanting to spend a couple weeks with Grandma and Grandpa so they can hang out at the beach! ;)

5) What makes you, you?
That's a really hard question. The first thing that came to mind was everyone, everyplace, everything. Everyone I've ever met has had an influence on me, whether good or bad, if even for a minute. Every place I've ever been or lived has shaped how I see other places. Everything in my life has lead me to be who I am right now. If you were to take one piece of my life out of the equation, I would not be me. I'm a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cook, maid, personal assistant, menu planner, dog walker, reader, writer... I'm Beck.
Let's play...when do you think I ovulated? :D

My Fertility Friend chart! With temps on CD 9, 10, and 16 disturbed, because on 9 and 10 I had been drinking (which doesn't always affect my temp, but I thought it did this time) and on 16 I was so sleepy I didn't know if I even put the thermometer in. :X (I temp vaginally.)

My TCOYF chart! (Hope this works.) With no temps disturbed. I set it to temps only but the new online software is wonky so I think it's still evaluating my CM, which is not all that consistent. Fixed it.

So, what do you think? Thanks in advance!

UC + Urgency = Badness

[info]allucha posting in [info]we_got_guts
Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Heyya everyone! Introductions first, I'm Ali, I'm 18 and I've had UC since January 2007. I've been 'watching' this comm since then, but this is the first time I'm posting.

Anyway. I've just started university and the colitis is starting to get in the way because of the whole urgency feeling, where, when you gotta go, you gotta go and there's nothing to do to stop it. And, aside from causing me to disappear suddenly every so often (which in itself is pretty sucky!) it's really a mood-killer. One minute I'm happy and such, the next I'm racing off to the nearest toilet. /rant over

Sooo. I was wondering if anyone had any advice/tips on the whole 'reducing urgency' factor? Anything would be extremely appreciated. I got through high school by waking up super early and letting my bowels do their thing before school, but now that's just not working. They'll do their thing, but then do some more. What's weird is that I'm not really 'flaring' (no/minimal blood).

Like I said, anything would be hugely appreciated! Thanksss!

Good morning to all. We're TTA, and I'm having a little bit of a pregnancy "scare" right now ... realizing that a baby now is not the end of the world, but certainly a baby would be an unplanned surprise.

Here is a link to my chart: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/25d48e. I suggest that you don't trust the temps before Day 54, as my thermometer was going on the fritz and I started charting with a new one on Day 54. (And yes, it's pretty "normal" for my body to try to fake me out with ovulation signs and then not actually ovulate. That's what's happening on Days 37-43.)

Up until this morning, FF drew my coverline at 96.8 degrees and placed ovulation at Day 62. This matched up with my cervical fluid, cervical fluid Peak Day (Day 62 also), and emotions. And that would make me okay for unprotected sex on Day 66, yes?

So last night (Day 67) we had sex without a condom, and this morning when I recorded my temp, FF moved the coverline and ovulation date. Which would mean I'm still fertile. Ahh!

Which would you trust, the old coverline and O-date, or the new one?

I am having a hard time concentrating at work this morning, just wondering, wondering, wondering...

Money, bleh.

Darrell and I decided that we're not going to do Holiday cards this year. We just don't want to spend the money on it. I can get cards for cheap, but we would still be spending a bit in postage. So, we're just not doing them.

We got my student loan repayment stuff in the mail yesterday. It's not pretty.

I really want to set up an etsy to do wedding flowers. I'm not expecting to make a TON on it, but anything will help.

Hiya everyone!

I was pointed back at this comm by a user in another community when I asked a question.
I used to be a member when the doctors thought I had ulcerative colitis, but when they came up blank after testing, I left as I thought I shouldn't be here without it!
However, it turns out I have other problems.

I do have IBS, which is enough of a problem itself! But I also have a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which primarily affects my joints, but affects all ligament type tissue too; and other tissue too. It's a collagen mutation, so my collagen doesn't work properly, or isn't there as much. It can cause awful bowel issues; the slightest thing can rip my skin open, and it's worse inside, so I get bleeding and stuff.
I've also just been in hospital with suspected appendicitis, and when they finally opened me up, they discovered my appendix is fine, but I probably have endometriosis, which will finally explain why I used to get diarrhea and terrible tummy cramps all the way through my period. (I say used to as I don't have periods now due to a contraceptive).

So if it's definitely endo (I'll see a gynae on the 30th and get the final diagnosis, but they removed nodules and deposits in the operation, so it's fairly positive), then that's affecting my bowels as well.

So I guess I can be here after all!

So... my question.
With all my problems (and I'm on oramorph which gives terrible constipation!), I have haemarrhoids. I'm looking for a natural way of treating them, as I'd prefer not to use chemicals and things as I have chemical sensitivities, and I only get more sensitive to things the more I use them, so I'm worried that although the germoloids suppositories are working well at the moment, I might become tolerant to their effect, or get sensitive to them.
I have to be careful with treatments as I get tolerant to things, or become sensitive, so I have to rotate things around.

Daytime temperatures?

[info]teacentral posting in [info]fam
Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I know that only waking temperatures are reliable when it comes to fam, but is there any significance at all to temperatures during the day, or should they be completely disregarded?

Ben had his two year well baby check up today. He did really, really well! He's almost 30 lbs and I didn't see how tall he is. We should probably measure him later so I can write it in his baby book. He ended up getting three shots today. BUT since we're not doing all of them, he's "caught up" until he's getting ready to start school. The ones he got today were all the last in a series, so I felt good getting them all at once because he's already had them before. And now we won't have to bring him back in until he's three. He cried when they did the shots, but he had Chacha and I gave him a sucker immediately afterwards and he was magically fine. ;) So, he's looking good and healthy! Dr. P mentioned again how much he likes our cloth diapers. He's so gentle with Ben. I love it. I told him that we're having another baby in March and he told us congratulations and talked about what a great age difference they'll have. He and his brother are two years apart and he said that had a great time growing up and were really close. :)

Ben's new room is getting closer to done. Darrell sanded out some bumps today and filled in some holes. We weren't going to paint, but it's looking like Darrell's going to go ahead and paint all the walls. It'll be nice to freshen it up but I'm anxious to get Ben in there! His birthday is in a little over a week and I'd like him in there by then. I think painting and cleaning the carpet are the only things left to do. It's just that painting can take a while, since I'm not going to help.

I'm 23 weeks tomorrow!

3 over 6

Does the 3 over 6 rule for temperature shifts count if the 3 are only .1 over the last 6? I had a few unusually high pre O temps about a week ago that I couldn't pinpoint a reason for, and as a result I can't draw a coverline yet based on the normal rules, but I think I've ovulated. (I'm not sexually active right now, so it's not urgent, I'm just trying to figure out when to expect my period...)

oh! Diana and Alan got married in Evanston on Labor Day weekend. They had a lovely first look at the Cuneo Museum (where they filmed part of "My Best Friend's Wedding"!) They had a church ceremony and a Korean ceremony before the reception. Their friends and family sure love to dance!

I know we're sometimes told that a coverline is just a visual aid and doesn't carry any meaning, but I think it's more useful than that. I've been charting for several years now and my coverlines are fairly consistent, always between 36.3 and 36.5. In fact, I've drawn up a chart which compares my usual temperature ranges, and I've found that they tend to move together: if my coverline is on the higher side, my follicular and luteal phase temps will be. (The blip in September 2007 is because I had acute calcific tendinitis, lost a lot of sleep due to pain, and was on codeine which raises your temperature.) This chart shows the highest temps during my period (my temps don't usually drop until during my period rather than before it, although with the graduated light/dark therapy this seems to be improving), the lowest temps during my follicular phase, the coverline, and the highest temps during my luteal phase. As well as increasing my LP, I'm hoping that my temps will start to drop in a nice gradual fashion before my period rather than sharply during it, as the sudden hormone drop triggers migraine, so I'm looking for that red line to get lower (which it's doing, and my migraines and PMS are doing better these days too, I think the treatments I'm on are helping). The chart below is just for comparing cycle length and LP, with cycle length in red, FP in blue and LP in yellow.

Cycle stats charts )

The reason why I think knowing your usual coverline is useful is because it can be helpful in working out your ovulation date. If you're staring at an ambiguous thermal shift trying to work out whether you ovulated or not and the coverline is half a degree away from your usual, then it's less likely to be ovulation. It's also worth getting to know your usual pattern, for example so that you can spot whether potentially triphasic temps are really higher than is usual for your LP. My FP temps have been a bit higher than average this cycle (and a lot more even, huzzah!), so I'm expecting my coverline to be higher as well. Judging by my usual patterns, I reckon I ovulated yesterday, though obviously I won't confirm for a couple of days. As I don't have a paid FF account, I've just rustled up a chart overlay in my cycle stats spreadsheet, though this one only shows my cycles since May (before that I wasn't charting on a spreadsheet, and too many lines will look confusing). See what I mean about sharp temp drops during my period?

High School

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
AIM has where you can listen to music. Darrell showed it to me a while ago. So now every once in while I put on music and dance around with Ben and Terra.

Today we're listening to Best of 1998. That's the year I graduated high school. And this music is bringing back SO MANY memories. It's crazy! I haven't listened to this stuff in years and I'm remembering things that happened like they happened last week!

Amber and Sarah and I were driving and we sang this song. Nick and I were hanging out and this song was playing. Clem was telling me about (this girl he really, really liked) and talking about this song. I was hanging out with all the PRIDE kids and this song came on the radio. We were in Florida when this song was popular. Meisner. And on and on.

People who I went to high school with: is there a particular song from that year you can think of that reminds you of something or someone in particular?

ETA:
Some of the bands we've heard so far today (that stand out to me):
Jewel
Third Eye Blind
Marcy Playground
Chumbawamba
Edwin McCain
Will Smith
The Verve
Goo Goo Dolls

Eve 6

Ovulation?

[info]evan_brennan posting in [info]fam
Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Well...we have been TTA and successfully so since the birth of my daughter in March '08.  My cycles are eerily regular, with a day or so change but for a couple months, it was so consistent that I got my period on a Wednesday for 4 months in a row!  Anyways,  I am a little thrown through a loop here though I feel pretty confident about my charting. Now I think that if my temp stays in the same range of 98.2 or higher, I can feel pretty confident about ovulation for day 16.  Other than the drop on day 7, and I think O is extremely unlikely then, I can't  see that I have ovulated yet.  Likewise my fluid is extremely consistent with day 16.  Here's the thing though, I got my period 2 days sooner than I was expecting it(day 1 of this cycle) , and as I said I am pretty regular so when it came, I went "OH NO-is this implantation spotting?" My period was heavy, but did not drag out the full 5-6 days like it usually does but stilll very heavy.    so what I am asking here is....would you look at my two charts (this and last month) and see if you can make heads or tails of it?  Here it is  Is pregnancy an option here?  If so we would be happy about it, although we would like to wait 'til youngest is 2 before TTC again.

And please don't ask me why there is all the open circles...I have been extremely consistent (the most so far) with the temp timing this month and also did not mark off anything!  Only on day 17 was I flanked on all sides with 3 kids and up at 4:30 with one of them (temp at that time 97.7)

One final note:  I know my fluid detail is not as textbook as preferred, but I get so annoyed with FF because I start to get watery fluid after O and it gets all funny on me.  I usually just note it around O and then if there's anything funny.
Thanks in advance!
